Resume

See what I've been working on for the past years.

PostNL — Corporate

In 2017 for 4,5 months

Contracted position as an Interaction Designer

In this project my role was to research, redesign and test a solution for PostNL's parcel and delivery machine together with another designer. While working on this project I've had to analyse previous research and conduct my own research in which I spoke to:

  • Random users (from old to young, at different times of day) after they picked up or sent their parcel/mail.
  • Deliveryworkers to get their perspective on the app and what their needs were.
  • Corporate stakeholders to see what they expected from the parcel and delivery machine.
  • Technicians who worked on the system to understand the limitations of the iteration.

After getting several insights from the different stakeholders and going through all the research, we started to prototype interfaces. While doing this we wanted to take into account the needs of all the stakeholders. We created several prototypes that we tested with different stakeholder groups to gain even more insights.

Until we landed on a final design that we presented to the head of the departments.

AMFI — Education institute

In 2018 till 2019 for 4 months

Contracted position as a Digital Creative

In my collaboration with the Amsterdam Fashion Institute I helped as a Digital Creative with Gen25 of iNDiViDUALS at AMFI. In this process iNDiViDUALS needed someone to brainstorm with and help with producing content for their exhibition at the beginning of the year.

During my time there I closely collaborated with Nilofar Attahi and Daan van Rongen to create a concept that would involve exhibition visitors into being immersed into the process of certain aspects within fashion. The first step within this was creating a fake fashion party that people would be able to sign up for.

This fake fashion party received some media attention and also grabbed the attention of hopeful visitors. We wanted to illustrate the illusion of having missed something and how that pushes people to want be a part of it even more.

After the fake event we worked on concepts for the real exhibition where people could actually visit. The exhibition would be broken up into several rooms showing different parts of the fashion process. The room Nilofar, Daan and I focused on was giving people a closer lens of what a fashion manager goes through.

To illustrate that we created a choose-your-own-adventure style interface where people would watch a video and after that they had to make a decision on which road to take. There were different responses depending on your choice within this flow.

NCI — Non-Profit research and treatment center

In 2020 for 4,5 months

Contracted position as an Interaction Designer

The Netherlands Cancer Institute was looking for a designer that could help with visualising a navigational system for them. They would use this system when operating on patients so they could navigate more accurately towards tumors, this would in turn minimise the damage to the patient and avoid more complex complications.

While I was there I didn't have knowledge of the medical systems and how they worked, so I was learning as I was going. To make sure I kept a rhythm in my work I did things like:

  • Sitting with surgeons and surgical researchers to make sure I understood the context.
  • Observe several surgeries so I could understand the interactions between the users.
  • Desk research on several medical systems and what their UX/Visual system usually looks like.
  • Have a look at systems that were present within the premises so I could see the interactions.
  • Speak to the developers creating the application so I understood the limitations of the system.
  • Have weekly meetings with a research team so we could discuss if I was heading in the right direction.

After getting the context I started to design and prototype several versions of the interface. To test it out I spoke with surgeons and surgical researchers to get their feedback and iterate on a final design that I presented to the research team.

As a handover I gave them a prototype, components of the interfaces, a design system where I explained how to use the components and how to create new pages with just the components. This would enable the work to proceed even if I wasn't in the position as designer.
